The Ilocos Norte government is planning to convert around 25 provincial road lines into national roads to further support its economic growth.

Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP or Provincial Board) unanimously approved on Monday, June 6, an urgent Provincial Resolution 2022-06-508 requesting the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to convert these road lines with a total length of 215.860 kilometers.

Local data showed that overall, these roads consist of 36 percent of the province’s 595.360-kilometer provincial roads.

Provincial Engineer Luciano Domingo Jr. cited that the proposed road conversion will “guarantee enhanced inter-regional, inter-provincial and inter-municipal linkages that will help contribute to the development of remote villages” in the different parts of the province.
