Ilocos Norte remains to be the richest province in Ilocos Norte, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported.
In its report, PSA noted that the province retained the lowest poverty incidence in Region 1 with 2.5 percent. Poverty incidence was defined as the proportion of families (or population) with per capita income less than the per capita poverty threshold to the total number of families or populations. The report is released every three years.
Gervy James Gumarit, head of the communication and media office of the Ilocos Norte government, said on Friday that this significant development is the effect of the national government’s commitment to create more jobs and livelihood across the country.
Despite the effects of the pandemic, Ilocos Norte was the only province in the region to have decreased poverty incidence among the population in 2021 compared to 2018. The province logged a 4.5 percent poverty incidence in 2018.
