Ilocos Norte is open to having the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office’s small-town lottery (STL) operations extend to its territory.
The provincial board unanimously approved on Nov. 5 a draft provincial resolution allowing Gov. Imelda Josefa “Imee” Marcos to forge a deal with the PCSO.
“There is a need to authorize the governor for this purpose, to increase its share from the PCSO charity fund,” provincial board member lawyer Vicentito Lazo said.
Under the proposed memorandum of agreement, the PCSO shall allocate an amount from the charity fund in favor of the provincial government, where STL tickets are sold.
It added this share is aside from the other assistance the provincial government may be entitled to receive, such as ambulance, medical and hospital equipment, and endowment funds to hospital and charitable institutions given by PCSO nationwide.
While STL started in 2006, it was only under the Duterte administration that sales from STL reached almost P1 billion each month.
