The Ilocos Norte provincial government is among the awardees in the 2017 Freedom of Information (FOI) Awards last December 4.
Ilocos Norte is among the first provinces to conduct FOI seminars.
The provincial board also passed the “FOI Ordinance in the Province of Ilocos Norte” in 2016 which provides “rules in the implementation of the right to access to information of the people of Ilocos Norte including component cities and municipalities.”
The ordinance allows Ilocos Norte residents access to information, official records, public records, and other documents of the local government and officials.
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Kris Ablan said Ilocos Norte is a “leading example of local government units embracing freedom of information.”
