Nueva Vizcaya Governor Carlos Padilla called on residents to oppose the renewal of OceanaGold’s Financial or Technical Assistance Agreement (FTAA).
The Nueva Vizcaya politiko said the Didipio mine is supposed to be turned over to the government if OceanaGold’s FTAA is not renewed.
Locals have been trying to block OceanaGold from operating after its permit lapsed in 2019.
“Let us vigorously oppose the renewal of OceanaGold’s FTAA,” Padilla said.
“Let us stand against mining,” he added.
Padilla also lamented the apparent show of support by President Rodrigo Duterte to the renewal of OceanaGold’s contract.
