Gov Marcos wants migration to be ‘matter of choice’

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos said he envisions a Philippines where migration is a “matter of choice.”

The Ilocos Norte politiko said right now migration is a “matter of survival” for many Filipino workers.

“We cannot afford any more delays in creating a Department of Migration. We need a whole-of-government approach to protect our OFWs,” Marcos said.

“In Ilocos Norte, at least 61 percent of the families in the region receive and survive on remittances from their OFW relatives.

Marcos also lamented that many OFWs come home mired in debt.
