Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos invoked the “sub judice” rule in refusing to answer Rappler’s questions on whether she or her siblings benefited from the illegal Swiss foundations that her mother created and maintained.
Marcos’ mother, Ilocos Norte 2nd District Representative Imelda Marcos was earlier found guilty of transferring around $200 million to seven Swiss foundations during her term as a member of the defunct Batasang Pambansa and as former Minister of Human Settlements.
Rappler asked Marcos if she was aware of these assets.
“Yes, I’m not able to answer because the case is pending in court. It’s best that our lawyers respond to your question. Yes, I think it’s sub judice,” she said.
The sub judice rule prohibits parties in a case and their lawyers from disclosing information or making any comment on ongoing judicial proceedings.
