The municipalities of Marcos and Carasi were recently declared “drug-free” by the Ilocos Norte Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC).
Marcos and Carasi, in October 2017, were declared drug-free by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos said the recent declaration is due to the commendable work done by the Philippine National Police (PNP) which yielded a high number surrenderees who are either drug users and pushers.
But there is still work to be done in Ilocos Norte.
Only 84.75% of the 513 drug-affected barangays in the province have been declared “drug-cleared” by the end of 2017.
Marcos also urged the military to be ready with encounters with communist rebels because of the collapse of peace talks between the government and the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
