Mountain Province Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr said corporal punishment ‘can never be justified.’
The Mountain Province politiko made the statement in his State of the Children Address as part of the National Children’s Month commemoration.
Lacwasan said children are most prone to abuse during the coronavirus disease (COVID19) pandemic.
“This type of abuse can be caused by over-discipline or punishment that is inappropriate for the child’s age and size. This is the very reason why teachers and even parents could be liable for child abuse if they inflict physical harm to make the children behave,” he said.
“We should always remember that corporal punishment can never be justified,” Lacwasan added.
