Apayao Governor Elias Bulut, Jr said the provincial government is in the planning stages of the province’s inclusion in the list of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) biodiversity sites.

The province’s inclusion in the UNESCO list comes following the discovery of the endangered Philippine eagle and other endemic flora and fauna in Apayao.

The Apayao politiko said the provincial government is coordinating with the United States foreign service and other non-government organizations

“We have to closely coordinate with the provincial officials of our neighboring provinces in Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Cagayan because the preservation and protection of our virgin forests should not be affected by our political boundaries,” Bulut said.

“Our research teams continue to discover numerous endemic plant and animal species in our forests that is why their job becomes difficult as the days pass by,” he added.
