Abra Governor Jocelyn Bernos called on the supporters of rival mayoral candidates in Lagayan to “to calm down” following an alleged gunfight between the two parties last January 3.
Police found two vehicles riddle with bullet holes within 800 meters away from each other along a river bank in the municipality.
Barangay Collago councilor Jayron Martinez, a supporter of mayoral candidate Edmarc Crisologo, said that passengers of a red pick-up truck opened fire at them.
The passengers of the red pick-up truck were identified as supporters of incumbent mayor Jendricks Luna.
Luna and his wife, Vice Mayor Chrisma Joy Luna, were recently suspended for six months by the Abra provincial board for dishonesty and grave misconduct over a road project in the municipality.
“We do not need these kinds of bravado,” Bernos said.
She called on local politikos to “focus on sustaining the gains of the province towards growth, prosperity, and progress.”
