Gov Bernos eyes stricter quarrying regulations

Abra Governor Jocelyn Bernos wants stricter regulations on quarrying in the province.

The Abra politiko, in particular, is concerned over the sand and gravel quarrying operations in Peñarrubia, Tayum, Pidigan, La Paz, Lagangilang, Bangued, Manabo, Dolores, Bucay, and San Juan.

Abra Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Officer Cris Albolote urged quarrying operators to secure the proper permits from Bernos and the Provincial Mining and Regulatory Board (PMRB).

Albolote said the PMRB can only approve quarrying applications of up to five hectares per municipality.

He explained this will help protect the Abra River.
