The Department of Education has approved the utilization of an LGBTQ-friendly restroom in a public high school in Ifugao.
On Wednesday, DepEd CAR said that the restroom will be opened next week in Ubao National High School in Aguinaldo town, which is part of their “gender-friendly” innovation.
DepEd CAR Human Resources Division head Sasha Joseph Daganos noted that more gender-friendly restrooms in schools will open.
Daganos, a transgender woman, added that the schools divisions supervising Ifugao, Mountain Province, and Benguet have signified their intention to build more comfort rooms for the LGBTQ community.
“I was born during the time when elders condemned homosexuality in villages. It was taboo,” she said. ““But the older and extremely conservative generation has since passed away, and social media, coupled with the much younger generation of parents, has made LGBTQ teens more visible, if not yet totally accepted.”
