Ex-Baguio mayor: Failure to pass sked of new real property market values, business taxes was my ‘weak point’
Former Baguio City mayor Mauricio Domogan said his failure to to push for the increase in the schedule of real property market values and business taxes was his “weak point” as the Summer Capital’s chief executive.
The Baguio politiko said he was not able to convince the City Council to pass the unpopular proposal because of “political pressure.”
Domogan said some councilors feared losing votes if the measure was passed.
“The last time that we revised the real property values was in 1995 and since then there had been no movement despite the fact that we are mandated to revise it every five years,” he said.
“I admit it was one of my weak points as the mayor because I failed to convince the city council members who were indifferent due to their fear of losing votes, a reason I don’t agree with but I hope the new set of city council will look into this address it this time,” Domogan added.
