The Ilocos region now has a fifth permanent evacuation center, in Vigan City in Ilocos Sur, the Department of Public Works and Highways said.
Located in Barangay Ayusan Sur, the P360-million Regional Evacuation Center Project sits on a 3,171.39-square-meter lot donated by the local government.
DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan said the two-story evacuation center has a dining room, kitchen, communication room, breastfeeding room, and storage.
He added the evacuation center is built on higher elevation and on spacious ground with vegetation, to help the displaced families cope with calamities.
The facility has separate male and female single-storey toilets and bathrooms, three-story laundry/drying area and water tank building, a Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center (RDRRMC) and Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Building, and rooms for the generator, pump, garbage disposal, and other facilities and equipment.
The DPWH has also set up a drainage system, installed street lighting, and power load center that are needed in the evacuation site.
