Cua questions Customs’ hiring of athletes

Aug 3, 2017 @ 18:12

Quirino Representative Dakila Cua questioned the Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) decision to hire professional basketball players to represent the agency in government tournaments.

This after it was revealed in a House hearing that the BOC were hired and placed several basketball players under different officers.

Customs Commissioner Nicolas Faeldon said the hiring of the athletes was made to boost the BOC’s image.

The BOC has long been perceived as one of the most corrupt agencies in the Philippines.

“Maybe the question here is: what are the BOC’s priorities?” Cua said.

“Is forming a basketball team part of the bureau’s mandate? If those hired as also officially performing as intel officers, there’s no problem,” he added.
