The COVID-19 pandemic has caused 957 businesses in Baguio City to close down.
Allan Abayao, supervising administrative officer of the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO), said that the establishments have already surrendered their business permits.
He cited that the majority of the closed establishments are from the tourism and hospitality sector including accommodations, souvenir shops, bars, and amusement. Abayao added that some educational institutions such as review centers, schools, and other establishments also closed down.
Baguio City’s Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) also reported that 194 businesses closed by retiring their business permits in 2020; 428 last year, and 335 as of May 2022 for a total of 957 establishments.
