The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) is coordinating with the provincial government of Isabela for the establishment of a new prison facility to decongest existing jails and prisons in Luzon.

In a statement, BuCor shared that they are already in contact with Isabela Governor Rodolfo T. Albano and have already met with their officials last June 8. The agency added that the proposed facility can accommodate at least 4,000 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in north Luzon provinces.

Currently, Luzon has over 6 detention facilities scattered all over the island region, including the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, the Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong City, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, and the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro.
