The Benguet provincial board is seeking for the reclassification of the province from second class to first class.

The Benguet provincial, in its resolution, asked Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III and House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez to classify Benguet as a first class province.

Benguet Board Member Roberto Namoro said the province has been operating as second class despite being qualified for first class.

The Department of Finance (DOF) guidelines states that first class provinces are those with an annual income of P450 million and above.

Benguet has recorded an annual income of P754.5 million in 2014, P852.6 million in 2015, and P963.9 million in 2016.

Reclassifying Benguet into a first class province will enable the provincial government to better deliver its services.
