Batanes placed under state of calamity

Days after the onslaught of Typhoon Kiko, the island province of Batanes has been placed under a state of calamity.

Batanes Governor Marilou Cayco announced that 80 percent of the province’s population were affected by the typhoon. She added that damage to agriculture was initially estimated at P97.3 million; infrastructure, P358 million; houses, P28.5 million, and power facilities, P3 million.

Additional reports claim that at least 27 locals were injured by the typhoon while at least 1,915 families were affected by the typhoon.
