Baguio City’s local health authorities flagged the six-fold increase in dengue fever cases in the city for the first eight months of 2021.
The City Health Services reported that from January 1 to August 30, a total of 891 dengue cases was recorded from the various barangays compared to 124 cases reported during the same period last year.
Medical Officer 4 Donabel Tubera-Panes added that a five-year data also show the sudden increase in cases. In 2016, 2,808 cases were reported for the whole year. Meanwhile, there were 500 in 2017, 434 in 2018, 839 in 2019, and 162 in 2020.
