Baguio files complaints vs Gateluck over killing of 45 pine trees

The Baguio city government is suing six directors of Gateluck Corporation for allegedly poisoning 45 pine trees in their property along Legarda Road.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the company’s officials allegedly ordered the killing of the 45 pine trees by boring holes at the lower trunks and inserting poisonous chemicals.

An Environment Management Bureau report said calcium carbide was used to poison the trees.

The Baguio politiko said the corporation’s excavation and ground preparation permit was denied because of some deficiencies.

The city government earlier discovered the dead trees during a routine inspection in the area.
