Ifugao Representative Teddy Baguilat on December 20 slammed Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez over the budget cuts of several lawmakers, especially the opposition.
Also affected are several Liberal Party (LP) members who are part of the House “supermajority.”
“Exacting revenge on the genuine opposition solons by removing projects dedicated not to them but to their citizens shows their desire for autocracy, for dangerous dictatorship,” Baguilat said.
“The healthy exchange of opposing views is crucial in a democracy,” he added.
Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez defended the budget cut.
“The funds slashed from some projects of the opposition and even those in the supermajority have been re-allocated to free college education in state universities and colleges and to augment the salaries and benefits of our men and women in uniform who are on the frontlines of the government’s war against terrorism and criminality,” Alvarez said.#
