Travelers in northern Luzon may now have an easier time going between La Union and Baguio City, with the opening of a P493.9-mimllion bridge and road.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said the 14.24-km road will pass through the Asin Hotspring in Tuba, Benguet and going to Baguio City.
Villar said this will slash travel time from Tubao to Asin Hotspring from two hours to 35 minutes; and travel time from Tubao to Baguio from two hours and 25 minutes to just one hour (http://northboundasia.com/2018/11/27/dpwh-opens-new-p490m-la-union-baguio-road/).
Also, he said this should decongest traffic along Marcos Highway, with Kennon Road presently closed to traffic.
Villar led the ceremonial inauguration last Monday. Also at the event were:
– La Union Provincial Engineer Elizabeth Sias representing Governor Francisco Emmanuel Ortega III
– Herbert Esponilla representing Rep. Sandra Eriguel of the Second District of La Union
– Tubao Mayor Dante Garcia
– barangay and local leaders
The DPWH said the new bridge with sidewalks on each side and reinforced concrete railings means residents no longer need to use bamboo rafts to cross Aringay River.
Road safety devices were incorporated in the project, including warning and regulatory signages, reflective thermoplastic pavement markings, solar powered street lights and stone masonry slope protection.
