Who’s the real Macoy? Imee says family to release ‘correct’ narrative on dad soon
The family of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos is set to release its own narrative about him soon in a bid to “correct” historical accounts.
Philippine Star editor Marichu Villanueva said Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos disclosed her family’s plan in a press conference on July 26 in Manila.
Quoting Imee, Villanueva said the narrative’s objective is to have millennial Filipinos “find out the truth” about Marcos.
Imee said her father has been “portrayed as the villain” even though the Philippines’ economy grew under his rule.
Marcos has been synonymous with martial law, which he declared in 1972. Several human rights abuses were committed during his rule, which lasted until 1986.
His family is also accused of amassing ill-gotten wealth running to billions of dollars.
