Patay kung patay! Baguilat to fight to the death vs. capital punishment
You know Ifugao Lone District Rep. Teddy Brawner Baguilat is serious when he says he’ll fight “to the death” against the implementation of death penalty.
However, the politiko said he needs public support to show the Duterte administration that majority of the country’s people is against House Bill 4727 or the death penalty restoration bill. The bill was approved on second reading last week by the House of Representatives (HOR).
Baguilat also expressed hope his fellow congressmen could still change their minds and vote according to their conscience, and not succumb to fear and intimidation from House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.
“I’ve seen high points and low points in the House, but nothing caused me as much shame and sadness as when I saw a good number of my colleagues seemingly celebrating the passage of the death penalty bill. It was painful to see the process cut short and see elected representatives unwilling to study further a law that would have greater impact on the Filipino people than the national budget,” the Ifugao solon said.
“The budget gives the government money to spend, but death penalty speaks about our morality as a nation and will impact mostly the poor. Railroading the discussions deprived our people the chance to truly examine the bill and the state of our country,” he added.
