Not backing down: Fariñas runs to SC to challenge Suarez as majority leader

Sep 12, 2018 @ 20:59

Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Rodolfo Fariñas has filed a petition before the Supreme Court (SC) contesting the minority leadership of Quezon 3rd District Representative Danilo Suarez.

The Ilocos Norte politiko on August 30 filed a petition for certiorari, prohibition, and/or mandamus with prayer for temporary restraining order (TRO), and status quo ante order against Suarez.

Fariñas earlier said he will go to the SC if Suarez was retained as minority leader.

He said Suarez should not be minority leader because he campaigned and voted for Arroyo to replace Davao del Norte 1st District Representative Pantaleon Alvarez as Speaker.

Fariñas’ group wants Arts, Business, and Science Professionals (ABS) Representative Eugene de Vera to become the duly recognized minority leader.

De Vera was the only lawmaker from the Suarez minority bloc who did not vote for Arroyo.
