NHCP turns over historical marker for Ilocos Norte provincial capitol
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) on March 1 turned over a historical marker at the Ilocos Norte Provincial Capitol commemorating the building’s role in the country’s history.
The unveiling of the historical also coincided with the provincial capitol’s 100th year anniversary.
The Ilocos Norte Provincial Capitol began construction in 1918 and was completed in 1925.
Governor Imee Marcos said it is time that history must be acknowledged.
“As we recognize the embattled history of our province for the past 200 years, indeed it has been heroic and a huge struggle, and yet we have come out triumphant,” the Ilocos Norte politiko said.
“It is time that we begin to acknowledge this history, we begin to recognize to preserve and conserve. As the NHCP enjoins us, we realize that these buildings are repositories of our racial consciousness and of our identity,” she added.
