MMSU sets P27M makeover of Batac campus sports oval
The state-run Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) is set to rehabilitate its sports oval located in its Batac campus.
Dr. Shirley Agrupis, president of MMSU, said Friday the initial amount of funds needed for the works was pegged at P27 million.
The upgrading of the 39-year-old sports oval is among the priority infrastructure projects of MMSU for 2018.
Senator Richard Gordon had earlier pledged P25 million for the construction of a modern grandstand and stadium with a rubberized oval, so part of the needed P27 million would come from it.
Over the past 15 years, students of MMSU have sustained the university’s ranking as the overall champion in the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association-Region 1 Olympics, of which the 2017 edition was recently held at the University of the Philippines, Vigan City.
With the upgrading of the MMSU oval, Prof. Arsenio Gallego, director of the Center for Human Movements and Studies, believes the university will not only be able to develop more athletes, but also help students and staff obtain good health.
Agrupis hopes that students would be inspired more to excel in various sporting events.
Aside from hosting sports events, the MMSU oval is also a favorite venue for social and religious gatherings in the province. (PNA)
