Mayor Alarcio: DENR reviewing waste-to-energy facility proposal
Laoac Mayor Silverio Alarcio Jr recently said that a waste-to-energy facility is now under review by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) regional office.
The Pangasinan politiko said the waste-to-energy project by the Rublu Group of Companies, a consortium of Filipino, Indian, South Korean and Chinese companies, will transform garbage into electric energy.
Alarcio said the project is different from Dagupan’s waste-to-worth project which will turn garbage into diesel fuel.
He also said Laoac will be the first municipality in Pangasinan to utilize the waste-to-energy technology if it pushes through.
Alarcio also defended the project, saying other countries still incinerate their garbage.
“Why are advanced countries still using this technology if it really is destructive to the environment?” he asked.
“If South Korea, Singapore and Japan are now using this technology, why can’t we use the same in our country in order to get rid of our own wastes where we have run out of place to safely dispose our wastes?” Alarcio added.
