Marcos: Tobacco fund probe has become personal
Former senator Bongbong Marcos said that the House probe into the alleged misuse of Ilocos Norte’s tobacco funds started out as a local political conflict that that was blown out of proportion.
Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, the former senator’s sister, is accused of misusing P66.45 million in tobacco funds to purchase motor vehicles.
The House probe is initiated by House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas, the Marcoses’ erstwhile political ally turned rival.
“I am not sure why it ended up here in the House. It’s a political conflict in Ilocos Norte that turned into a personal one,” Marcos said.
Marcos attended the fifth hearing of the probe on August 9.#
