Imee’s multicabs coat P465K each? Fariñas: I’ve distributed cheaper cars
House Majority Floor Leader Rudy Fariñas has claimed he was clueless about the alleged anomalies surrounding Ilocos Norte’s purchase of multicabs worth P66.45 million after Governor Imee Marcos released photos showing he was present at the distribution of the vehicles to barangays.
In a statement, Fariñas confirmed he attended the distribution of multicabs to barangay officials in 2011 and 2012 but he had no idea that tobacco funds were used to purchase them through cash advances and no public bidding was conducted.
“The price of each was P465,000, which would have shocked me,” he said.
As a long-time provincial politiko, Fariñas said he also gave out multicabs to barangays in Ilocos Norte with prices ranging from P180,000 to P250,000. In a Facebook post, Imee said the public should judge whether the province’s purchase of multicabs was a ghost project if Fariñas was around to witness its distribution.
The House committee on good government and public accountability is investigating the procurement of vehicles using tobacco funds.
Imee has been invited to attend the hearings but she has yet to appear at the House.
