Imee sees silver lining in fake news on P100M ‘yellow’ fund: Now they know how it feels to be accused of corruption
Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos might have been forced to eat humble pie when she was forced to admit she lied about the P100 milion being dangled by “yellow forces” to House members
But Marcos used her miscue as her cue to remind the Liberal Party and its allies how it felt to be accused of corruption.
“Ang pagakusa ng katiwalian ay hind na bago sa pamilya ko. Nakikita naman natin na tuloy-tuloy pa rin kaya kailangan ipagtanggol ang pangalan at dignidad ng di lang ng Kongreso kung di bawat isa sa atin,” said Marcos during the House committee hearing probing her alleged misuse of P66.5 million of tobacco funds in her province.
Marcos made the statement shortly after apologizing to lawmakers after she accused them of getting P100 million funds from the Liberal Party and its allies just to make sure she gets hailed for the alleged tobacco fund scam.
Marcos was forced to admit that her charges were untrue after being threatened with contempt by Majority Leader Rudy Farinas for her refusal to name the source of information of the P100 million bribery charge.
“I decry the dragging in of the name of President Noynoy Aquino who was my colleague in the House as part of the opposition for years and years,” she added.
Marikina Rep, Miro Quimbo, speaking for the LP, cautioned Marcos against making baseless accusations against the party and its leader, Aquino.
“’Wag niyo rin kami tapunan ng dungis kasi hindi magandang karanasan kapag natapunan din kayo ng walang katapasung akusasyon na walang basehan according to you,” said Quimbo.
