Imee Marcos running for senator as Bongbong’s VP protest gains traction

Apr 22, 2018 @ 20:06

Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos is planning to run for the Senate as her brother, former Sen. Bongbong Marcos grinds out his electoral protest against Vice President Leni Robredo.

Marcos said she was being urged to run by her family because “he (Bongbong) does not want to give up because he believes there is hope.”

Marcos ranked 13th in Pulse Asia’s March 2018 survey of senatorial preferences for the 2019 elections.

During the 4th Corn husk and Waterlily Festival here on Sunday, Marcos said.: “The truth is there is no one in the family inclined to politics except me and my brother. My mother (Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos) wants to rest from politics.”

On the need for a Marcos to be in the national leadership, she said the North still needed representation, considering the uniqueness of the needs of its people, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure.

The family, she said is upbeat about the initial result of the recount at the Presidential Electoral Tribunal. We were surprised there were ballot boxes that were cracked, wet and smelled like chemicals,” she said. (PNA)
