Imee condemns assassination try on Marcos town mayor
Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos strongly condemns the suspects behind the botched gun attack which severely wounded Marcos town Mayor Jessie Ermitanio and killed one of his staff, aside from wounding two others in the evening of April 4.
The assassination attempt against the politiko took place near the Padsan River in Barangay Daguioag, Marcos town 7: 30 p.m. of the above-mentioned date.
Investigations indicated that the victims were aboard a Toyota Fortuner (AAR-3215) and just finished the eastern barangays of the town when still unidentified gunmen appeared out of nowhere and fired on Ermitanio’s party.
In the attack, the Marcos town mayor was hit in the shoulder and left thigh but managed to jump of the vehicle and engaged the suspects in firefight.
However, his driver Lucky Jesrel was hit also and pronounced dead on arrival at the Doña Josefa Edralin Marcos District Hospital.
Wounded were Ricky Florendo, 32, a native of Abra who is a body guard of Ermitanio, and Edralene Arellano, 26, a staff of the vice mayor also sustained gunshot wounds on different parts of their body.
They are now recovering at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Batac City where they were transferred for further treatment.
“We condemn this attack and condole with the bereaved driver’s family. It’s a blot on our record and we will spare no effort in investigating and bringing perpetrators to justice,” Imee said in a statement.
