Ilocos Norte PNP to DPWH: Install signages in accident prone areas
Following the accident that claimed the life of Laoag Vice Mayor Michael Fariñas, police in Ilocos Norte are urging the Department of Public Works and Highways to install more early warning signs in “accident-prone” areas.
Laoag police head Superintendent Dominic Guerrero said the added signage would help avoid prevent potentially fatal vehicular accidents in those areas again.
The vice mayor was killed after figuring in a car accident last June 6, near a curve of the newly-constructed Laoag bypass road connecting Laoag and Bacarra town (http://northboundasia.com/2018/06/10/ilocos-norte-pnp-wants-more-signage-installed-in-accident-prone-areas/).
Guerrero said the vice mayor, who was driving a Mercedes Benz V8 Biturbo, allegedly overshot as he approached a curve and lost control of the vehicle.
SPO2 Melchor Geronimo, who was with the vice mayor, suffered a spinal injury and is being treated at the Laoag City General Hospital.
A week earlier, another vehicular accident happened in the same area that killed two motorists riding in tandem.
Meanwhile, the provincial police reminded drivers and passengers to always buckle up for safety.
