House panels OK proposed Northern Luzon Growth Quadrangle Development Authority
Not one, but two House committees have green-lit the creation of the Northern Luzon Growth Quadrangle Development Authority.
House Bill 4995, authored by Ilocos Sur First District Representative Victor Savellano, aims to speed up socio-economic development in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
The bill was approved at the committee level by the Special Committee on North Luzon Growth Quadrangle panel chaired by Rep. Maximo Dalog (Lone District, Mountain Province) and Government Enterprises and Privatization panel chaired by Rep. Mark Go (Lone District, Baguio City).
Savellano, in a statement, said the proposed body will be responsible for the overall policy direction, coordination, and supervision of the entire development efforts of the three regions.
There had been precursor offices similar to the proposed Northern Luzon Growth Quadrangle Development Authority in the previous administrations until the last one was abolished during former President Benigno Aquino III’s term.
Savellano said developing the three regions together requires a coordinating body, hence the proposed Northern Luzon Growth Quadrangle Development Authority.
