Gov Marcos refutes Robredo over Ilocos Norte ‘poverty’

Apr 16, 2018 @ 15:41

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos refuted Vice President Leni Robredo’s statement that the province is one of the poorest provinces in the Philippines.

Robredo, in a speech before the London School of Economics, said Ilocos Norte is one of the country’s poorest provinces.

The Ilocos Norte politiko said Robredo’s data was wrong.

“In fact, we are in the top ten provinces with the highest Human Development Index in the country,” Marcos said.

“Ilocos Norte is also one of the most robust local economies listed in the provinces with the longest life expectancy. We have an enviable literacy rate, we are a First Class Province with a single digit unemployment rate which is even lower than the national average. We also have one of the fastest declining economic inequalities in the country according to UNDP, and one of the lowest poverty rates,” she added.
