Gov Marcos to Fariñas: Stop inquisition against me

Jul 13, 2017 @ 16:27

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos on Thursday (July 13) insisted that the transactions involving P66.45 million in provincial tobacco funds were aboveboard.

The Ilocos Norte politiko is being accused by House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas of allegedly misusing the tobacco funds to purchase motor vehicles.

Marcos said the House of Representatives is making an inquisition out of the case.

“May mga papeles kami. ‘Wag ginagawang inquisition ng Kamara. Ang programa ng Kongreso ay maghain at gumawa ng batas,” Marcos said.

The House committee on good government and public accountability is probing Ilocos Norte’s motor vehicle purchases using the tobacco funds.

The House probe has yielded red flags in the transactions.

Marcos said Fariñas’ motivation for the probe is local politics.

“Pulitikang lokal ang pinagmulan nito. Bakit hindi ibalik sa Ilocos Norte ang laban na ‘yan?” Marcos asked.
