Gov Marcos: Fariñas was ‘consort’ in mini-truck distribution
Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos on Friday (July 14) released photos showing House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas was with her during the distribution of mini-cabs to barangay captains in 2012.
The mini-cabs are the subject of a House probe initiated by Fariñas.
Marcos was beside Fariñas in the photos.
“Noong pinamigay ‘yung mga mini-truck, sino ‘yung tumataginting na konsorte ko dito kundi naman si Congressman Fariñas? Kasama ko sa pamimigay. Kasama ko kasi ‘One Ilocos Norte’ pa kami noon,” Marcos said.
“Congressman Fariñas is saying these are ghost projects. Kayo na lang po ang humusga,” Marcos added.
Fariñas, also Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative, initiated a probe into the provincial government’s alleged misuse of P66.45 million in provincial tobacco funds used to purchase of motor vehicles from 2011 and 2012.
Fariñas admitted he joined Marcos during the distribution of mini-cabs, but said he didn’t know the purchase was anomalous.
“Yes, I was invited during the distribution and I can attest that they were given to barangay captains. I had no idea or information that tobacco funds were used to purchase them, [that they were bought] through cash advances, [and] no public bidding [was done],” Fariñas said.
