Gov Mamba lauds Duterte for removing CEZA monopoly
Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba praised President Rodrigo Duterte for removing former Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) administrator Jose Mari Ponce, a distant relative of former Senate president Juan Ponce Enrile.
The Cagayan politiko, a political rival of the Enrile clan, was sworn in as the new provincial chairman of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) on Friday.
Mamba said he former president Benigno Aquino did not help him when he asked for help in ridding Cagayan of illegal gambling and black sand mining.
He also said he asked Aquino to fire Ponce, but the former president did not listen to him.
Mamba was the former Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO) chief during the Aquino administration.
Duterte replaced Ponce with Raul Lambino, former president and now Pampanga 2nd Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s lawyer.
“The truth is, I don’t even know Duterte. Iyong inaasahan kong dapat mangyari sa Cagayan, siya ang nakagawa eh,” Mamba said.
He added he “kept quiet” because of “vested interests.”
“Hindi ko kaya, baka ako ‘yung sipain. So I just waited. Through one and a half years, kita ninyo naman, dati monopoly ‘yang CEZA, ngayon nawala na,” Mamba said.
