Fariñas: No offer to become DILG secretary, but…
House Majority Leader Rudy Fariñas on Tuesday (May 9) denied receiving offers from the Palace about heading the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), although he somewhat kept the door open for it.
“I have not been offered any position,” Fariñas told House reporters in the chance interview amid rumors that he was being considered for the post by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Incidentally, Fariñas, one of the more important administration allies in the legislature, is on his third and final term as congressman.
Asked what he plans to do after his last term, the Ilocano lawmaker said: “Retire. Unless matapos ko term ko and then they feel na I’m still needed edit pwede naman.”
Fariñas admitted to reading about the DILG rumors.
Asked about a possible stint in Duterte’s Cabinet, he joked, “Mas gusto ko dito.”
Fariñas represents the 1st district of Ilocos Norte and is a former governor.
