Fariñas: ‘Mastermind’ stopped Ilocos 6 from giving testimony
House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas on Thursday (June 15) said that the “mastermind” of the six detained Ilocos Norte Provincial Government officials is stopping them from giving their testimonies on the alleged misuse of P66.45 million worth of tobacco funds.
The Ilocos Norte politiko’s statement comes after former senator Bongbong Marcos visited the 6 Ilocos Norte officials.
“As expected, their mastermind is doing everything to keep them from talking. If the transactions were legal as claimed by Governor Imee Marcos in her letter to the committee, she could easily bring the suppliers of those vehicles to attest to their legality,” Fariñas said.
The Ilocos Norte First District Representative said the 6 officials could have shown documents to show the transactions were legal but instead chose to be held in contempt.
When asked whether he was referring to Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos as the “mastermind,” Fariñas said, “Your guess is as good as mine, maybe even better.”
The Ilocos 6 were cited in contempt and detained by the House committee on good government and public accountability on May 29.
The Court of Appeals Special 4th Division earlier ordered their provisional release, but the House has defied the order.
