Cagayan Gov, Archbishop to NPA: Stop harassing construction firms
Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba and Archbishop Sergio Utleg, in a joint statement, called on the New People’s Army (NPA) to stop the burning heavy equipment of construction companies.
This after five firms discontinued road construction in Baggao because of the supposed harassment of the rebel group.
Mamba and Utleg said Baggao has long been deprived of good roads.
“We will have a short summer this year and any delay of road construction will mean more suffering for the people of Baggao especially during the rainy season,” they said.
The NPA admitted to torching a construction company’s hauler truck, compactor, and two backhoes last March.
The construction company was working on a road construction from Alcala to Baggao.
The communist rebels supposedly burned the heavy equipment after the company refused to pay them revolutionary taxes.
