Barcena blasts Gov Mamba over agricultural loan veto
Cagayan 1st District Board Member Cristopher Barcena on August 9 hit Governor Manuel Mamba for vetoing P30 million in agricultural loans for farmers and cooperatives.
A Northernforum.com article said Barcena expressed his disappointment over Mamba’s decision to veto the proposed ordinance for agricultural loans.
The measure was intended to provide capital for no interest loans to farmers’ associations and cooperatives.
But Mamba vetoed the ordinance on August 8.
He said the provincial government has only collected P58,000 of more than P36.4 million in loans under the Micro Financing Assistance Program of the People’s Action Center from the previous administration.
“Hindi niya binigyan ng pansin at hindi binigyan ng kahalagahan ang ordinansang ito. Nakakalimutan po ata ng ating Gobernador na agrikultura ang isa dapat na prayoridad ng ating lalawigan,” Barcena said.
