Baguilat: Mariano rejection shows Duterte’s flimsy alliance w/ Left

Sep 6, 2017 @ 18:28

Ifugao lone-district Rep. Teddy Brawner Baguilat Jr. said the rejection by the Commission on Appointments of Department of Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael “Ka Paeng” Mariano shows that President Rodrigo Duterte’s relationship with the Left is “flimsy.”

The Liberal Party member said, “It shows that the tactical alliance forged by the extreme left and President Duterte before during and after the elections is based on flimsy grounds.”

But Baguilat said he was disappointed by Mariano’s exit from the Cabinet.

“Notwithstanding my ideological differences with Ka Paeng Mariano, we are saddened that someone from the peasant sector and whose appointment engendered much promise that social justice would be aggressively pushed in an agency whose mandate is for the emancipation of farmers has been rejected by the administration-controlled CA,” he said.

“Of greater concern is whether this now absolutely closes the door for any peace talks with the NDF,” he said.
