Baguilat hits Duterte administration over decision to reject aid from EU
Ifugao Representative Teddy Baguilat slammed the decision of the Duterte administration to reject certain aid packages from the European Union.
The Ifugao politiko warned the move may lead to a full-blown diplomatic war against the EU, one of the largest trade, investment, and development partners of the Philippines.
The Duterte administration previously said it will refuse grants from the EU with attached conditions that could “interfere” with the internal affairs of the government.
Baguilat urged the government to reconsider its decision because it will have big implications on trade, investments, and development.
“Such an unprecedented move is short-sighted and obviously not well thought out considering that some of the administration’s own key economic managers have said they were not consulted before the decision was made. It is a haphazard move that the government cannot afford to make,” Baguilat said.
