Ang puno’t dulo ng lahat: Imee holds the key to P66-M scam since she OK’d release of funds- Pimentel
Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos needs to show up at the House of Representatives’ next hearing on the province’s alleged misuse of tobacco excise tax collection because of her role in the controversy, Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel said.
The lawmaker, who heads the House committee on good government and accountability investigating the issue, said they could only close the probe if Imee attends.
“Di natin ma-close ang hearing because the main personality is Gov. Imee Marcos. She was the one who approved the voucher. She was the one who approved the purchase request. She was the one who approved the checks so paano natin maisasara itong hearing kung hindi pa natin nakakausap ang head of the agency?” he asked.
Imee has skipped the hearings because she was warned by her brother, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., that she may be detained if she attends.
The House panel has detained six employees of the Ilocos Norte provincial government since May 29 due to their refusal to cooperate with lawmakers conducting the probe.
While the feud between Marcos and House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas has often been cited as the real reason for the chamber’s investigation, Pimentel said it was undeniable that funds were misused by the province.
“Baka nakalimutan ng publiko na may anomalyang nangyari. There was illegal use of government funds which was not used for its purpose,” he said.
