Eight members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) have surrendered to the military in separate occassions in Nueva Ecija, Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) said Thursday.

On Tuesday, June 12, six individuals surrendered to the 7th Civil Military Operations Battalion and 84th Battalion, both under the Joint Task Force “Tala” of the 7th Infantry Division, in Barangay San Agustin, Carranglan.

The six surrenderees include an NPA member, three Militiang Bayan members, and two Bayan Muna members in their localities.

They also turned over one high-powered firearm and eight low-powered firearms.

On Wednesday, June 13, two other NPA members also surrendered with a high-powered firearm to the same Army units, Nolcom said.

The two were former regular members of the NPA Josefino Corpuz Command, but were later utilized as Milisyang Bayan of Kilusang Larangang Gerilya Caraballo in Carranglan area.

“The surrender was a result of the sustained efforts of Community Support Program Teams of the said Army units deployed in the area, through the conduct of CMO activities and Radio Broadcasting System operations,” Nolcom said.
